Pailune

Pailune is a harrowing snow-swept mountain region inspired by Viking and Norse aesthetics, defined by its perpetually frozen peaks, howling blizzards, and treacherous high-altitude passes. The landscape is brutal and beautiful in equal measure: jagged ridgelines dusted in white give way to hidden valleys where ancient settlements cling to cliff faces. The harsh climate filters out the faint-hearted, and the architecture of Pailune's settlements reflects a people shaped by survival: thick timber halls, reinforced stone walls, and hearth-lit interiors contrasting with the merciless cold outside.

Pailune is the ancestral homeland of the Greymane clan, which lends the region deep narrative weight. When the player arrives, the region is under brutal occupation by the Black Bears under the warlord Myurdin, and liberating Pailune is a central story objective. Key bosses challenge players at every elevation: the Staglord commands the Savage Peaks with three massive health bars requiring sustained commitment to defeat; Reed Devil waits at the summit of Frozen Soul Mountain in extreme cold conditions; and the White Horn, a fearsome beast, roams the mountain wilderness between settlements. The gateway settlement of Kweiden serves as the player's foothold into the region.

From a gameplay standpoint, Pailune demands preparation. Cold-resistance gear or consumables are advisable before venturing into the upper reaches of the White Mountains and Frozen Soul Mountain. The region's verticality rewards exploration: hidden paths wind between peaks, leading to abyss gates and isolated loot caches. Liberation of Pailune's key points unlocks fast-travel nodes and grants access to Pailune-specific crafting recipes tied to the region's fur-trade economy. The snow terrain also affects movement and horse traction, creating unique traversal challenges not found in Hernand's open fields.

Pailune's frozen wilderness conceals some of the most rewarding secrets in all of Pywel for dedicated explorers. Ice-sealed caverns dotting the mountain faces can only be accessed after acquiring fire-based abilities or specific alchemical explosives, and they contain rare frost-tempered ore used in Pailune's exclusive high-tier armor recipes. Blizzard events dynamically alter the landscape, temporarily revealing hidden paths across frozen lakes while closing off others, encouraging repeat exploration under different weather conditions. Ancient Greymane burial cairns scattered along the ridgelines hold ancestral weapon fragments that, when assembled, unlock a legendary quest chain tied to the clan's founding. The region also harbors several well-hidden Abyss gates embedded in cliff faces at extreme elevations, accessible only with the Crow Wings gliding ability, linking Pailune's exploration directly to late-game progression.

Pailune occupies the frozen northern reaches of Pywel, defined by heavy snowfall, freezing temperatures, and treacherous mountain passes that create the game's most punishing survival conditions. Once the homeland of the Greymane clan before it was overrun by the Black Bears, Pailune's story content during Chapter 7 is deeply personal for Kliff and his companions. The region features eight Abyss Cressets, unique ice-themed ancient ruins with sliding-block puzzles, and settlements where players can acquire cold-weather gear essential for deeper exploration. Pailune's Bell Tower, once activated, reveals a sprawling tundra landscape dotted with hidden caves, frozen lakes, and abandoned Greymane outposts waiting to be reclaimed.
